Eterna Swiss Watches

Eterna

Five dots in the shape of a Pentagram is a pattern found on the dial and on the crown of all Eterna timepieces from Switzerland. Inspiration behind this artistic representation came from Eterna's engineers in 1948. It was that year the white-coated Keeblers courageously designed the first automatic-wind movement. Their design utilized a crescent-shaped disc with a weighted rim that spun pendulum style from the center of the main plate. This oscillating weight was additionally supported with five ball bearings running in a polished concave channel. From a slight distance you could see these ball bearings, and they did indeed look like a five-dot Pentagram. Today, almost every manufacture of an automatic, a self-winding, or in the case of Rolex, a "perpetual-winding" timepiece utilizes a system patterned vicariously after Eterna's rotating-rotor invention...Cool...! Today's Eterna timepieces are understandably modernized; AR-coated sapphire crystals, Super Luminova luminescence, machine Guilloche dials etc. Regardless, the essence of a company founded in 1876 can still be seen in such design cues as their pig-tail lugs, aesthetic dial designs reminiscent of time gone by, and of course the five dots in the shape of a Pentagram.
